Position Overview

As a 988 chat & text counselor, you will play a critical role in offering real-time support to individuals reaching out via chat or text message. You will offer empathetic guidance, information, and resources to help individuals navigate moments of crisis. Your contributions will be vital in creating a safe environment for those seeking help.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly and professionally to chat and text inquiries from individuals in crisis.
• Utilize active listening skills to assess clients’ needs and offer appropriate support.
• Provide crisis intervention and emotional support, while maintaining a non-judgmental stance.
• Connect clients with relevant resources, including mental health services and local support groups.
• Document interactions and maintain accurate records of conversations while protecting client confidentiality.
• Participate in ongoing training and team meetings to enhance skills and stay informed about best practices in crisis intervention.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Prior experience in crisis intervention, counseling, or mental health support is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage in active listening.
• Strong empathetic and compassionate approach to client interactions.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
• Proficiency in using technology and virtual communication platforms.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
